Africa-Press – Kenya. Several Mt Kenya leaders on Friday drummed support for equitable distribution of revenue through the ‘one man-one vote-one shilling allocation’ The leaders spoke during the burial of David Ng’ethe, father of Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie.
Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu started the show by urging President William Ruto to think about reviewing the rules and sharing revenue based on the population.
The current formula for counties with low numbers yet development cash targets the people and not the land area. For equitable resource allocation, the population must be the main parameter and any other route is riddled with inequity.
He said that current financial sharing formulae don’t correspond to the population. “We request that you check on the people of Mt Kenya region, we voted for you and we will still do it in 2027 but kindly consider ensuring equitable sharing formulae for our people based on population,” Nyutu said.
Murang’a Governor Irungu Kanga’ta also supported the push and urged the President to support the move. He urged Nyutu to push the fight to ensure that the people of Mt Kenya benefit based on their population.
Kang’ata underscored the need for the equitable allocation of revenues based on population. “I’m happy that Nyutu has revived the battle on sharing formulae which I was part of it, we will fully guide you on how to push the battle and we are fully behind it,” Kang’ata said.
Nominated MP Sabina Chege declared support for the Kenya Kwanza government but urged President William Ruto to reward the people of Mt Kenya who voted for him.
Chege urged the country’s leadership to consider the one man, one vote, and one shilling proposal saying it will go a long way in ensuring equity. “I fully support One Man-One Vote-One Shilling and I hold it dearly in my heart for the people to benefit,” Chege said.
Murang’a women representative Betty Maina promised President William Ruto of support ahead of the 2027 election. She promised the people from Mt Kenya region that Kenya Kwanza is ready to fulfil the campaign promises.
Two weeks ago, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru also drummed support for the equitable distribution of resources to the region through the one man, one shilling, one vote formula.
Waiguru said funds allocated especially to cater for bursaries in Mt Kenya are insufficient thus causing a lot of untold suffering to many needy students.
“I want to join other regional leaders in rooting for the increment of resources in our region because the funds we disburse for bursary are insufficient and we end up allocating Sh2000 or Sh3,000 to each student. This is in sharp contrast to some other counties that cater full scholarships to their students,” Waiguru said.
The burial was attended by President William Ruto, and a host of top government officials among them CSs Moses Kuria, Alice Wahome, and Njuguna Ndung’u among others.
