Africa-Press – Kenya. Kakamega County has announced massive recruitment aimed at curbing youth unemployment. Speaking on Saturday during the burial of Hamisi Muganda, Governor Fernandes Barasa said 3,000 youth, 50 from each of the county’s 60 wards across 12 subcounties will be employed from July this year.
“I want to tell our youths that even if you only have a birth certificate, you will be able to work for one year at the county government,” he said.
“The youth will be on contract for one year so that others can also get an opportunity in subsequent years,” the county boss added. The vacancies include road maintenance, sentry services, bush cleaning and maintenance of drainage systems. Others are office support services.
Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, who was also present at the funeral, said youth from poor families would be given priority during recruitment. Hamisi, who perished in a car crash, was party leader for the Maendeleo Democratic party leader.
