Alfred Mutua Details How Plan to Fix Kalonzo Was Hatched

Africa-Press – Kenya. Machakos governor, Mr Alfred Mutua, now alleges parties that signed the deed of agreement on March 12, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) establishing Azimio La Umoja were conned by the proponents of the political faction.

Speaking in Embu on Friday, May 20, during a Kenya Kwanza engagement forum between the leaders and the residents, Mr Mutua alleged that the secretary generals of different parties signed a blank paper at KICC.

Mr Mutua went ahead to allege that when they questioned the reason behind signing a blank document, they were informed it was meant to fix Mr Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper Party, who had initially expressed his reservation in joining the political faction.

“My secretary general signed a blank page and when we asked, we were told it was a way of fixing Kalonzo,” alleged Mr Mutua.

In his attack on the Mr Raila Odinga-led Azimio, Mr Mutua alleged that the political faction was full of political brokers who were hellbent on frustrating small parties.

“I was in Azimio and I know what betrayal, conmanship and lies look like. We were lied to by the brokers.”

“Azimio La Umoja is now Azimio La Ma Brokers. People who are there can attest to that,” added the Machakos governor.

In his address, the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader implored his Wiper counterpart, Mr Kalonzo Musyoka, to either join Kenya Kwanza under the captainship of Deputy President William Ruto or go it alone.

“And I want to ask my brother (Mr Musyoka), to either continue looking after his cattle or join Kenya Kwanza. But please do not go back to that house (Azimio) since you are my brother.”

Mr Mutua and his Kilifi counterpart, Mr Amason Jeffa Kingi, ditched Azimio La Umoja for Kenya Kwanza alleging deep-rooted secrecy in the running of the coalition.

Mr Musyoka on the other hand ditched Azimio on Monday, May 16, and announced his presidential bid.

To cement his stand, the Wiper leader picked Mr Andrew Sunkuli as his running mate, stating the race to State House was unstoppable.

Mr Musyoka, just like Mr Mutua and Mr Kingi, accused the proponents of Azimio La Umoja, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr Raila Odinga, of shady dealings in the execution of the coalition agreement.

Mr Musyoka accused Mr Odinga of reneging on his promise to pick him as his running mate in the August 9 polls, rather settling on Narc Kenya’s leader, Martha Wangari Karua.

The Wiper leader’s presidential bid, however, is surrounded by uncertainty following the pronouncement by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) that the party cannot leave the coalition party without exhausting internal disputes resolution mechanisms.

According to the deed of agreement establishing Azimio La Umoja, a political party cannot leave the coalition six months to the August 9 General Election or three months after the said election.
