Barchok, Rutto face off in final Bomet rally

Africa-Press – Kenya. Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok is promising his main rival Isaac Rutto a humiliating defeat in the race for the gubernatorial seat.

Rutto, the CCM party leader, is plotting a comeback after a bitter loss to late Governor Joyce Laboso in the 2017 general election.

Addressing a legion of supporters in his final rally at Silibwet stadium Saturday, Barchok exuded confidence of capturing the seat saying, “my track record speaks for himself.”

He took over from Laboso in 2019.

Barchok is running on Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA ticket which currently commands a sizeable following in the county and across the Rift valley region.

“This is one of DP Ruto’s support bases, our people are fully in UDA and voting in candidates running in the party and so we are confident of cruising to victory,” said Barchok.

He added, “As a UDA family, we humbly request for your votes to propel us to victory as early as possible”.

He also campaigned for DP Ruto urging voters to deliver a 99 percent turn out to enable win and “extinguish the kuzimia and opinion polls project”.

Making his final submission, Rutto who was at the Bomet green stadium said they were fully behind the DP in the region but called on the residents to elect the right leaders.

“We all agree that we are behind William Ruto in the presidential seat but down here we are doing a mix and match,” he told the gathering.

In his speech, Rutto presented himself as the best bet saying the management of the county needed a leader who understands the challenges facing the people.
