Africa-Press – Kenya. UDA presidential candidate William Ruto has solemnly appealed to Kenyans to embrace peace as they prepare to cast their vote on Tuesday.
While quoting the scriptures, the Deputy President said God is in the habit of rewarding those who seek to foster peace.
“I remind all Kenyans to remember the words of Mathew 5:9 which says blessed are the peace makers because they will be called children of God,” Ruto said.
The DP spoke during a Sunday church service in Kayole, Nairobi.
He was accompanied by Nairobi senator and UDA gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi among a host of other leaders.
“Each one of us, each Kenyan wherever you are, whatever you do, be a peace maker. It is a qualification to become a son and a daughter of God,” Ruto said.
Ruto attributed his survival in the Kenyan political terrain to God saying he has faced stiff competition in his quest to become president but God stood by him.
He made reference to Daniel 11: 32 which says, “Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.”
The DP said he was intimidated by deep state and the system but he wavered the storms by the grace of God.
“Because we know the God we believe in, we will be strong. Because we know God, we have come this far because our trust is in God,” he said.
Ruto will be making his maiden attempt to become Kenya’s chief executive when his former political soulmate President Uhuru Kenyatta leaves office.
The DP is, however, facing stiff competition from Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga with whom latest polls suggested are neck to neck in the hotly contested election.
Raila is making his fifth stab at the top seat after four unsuccessful attempts.
Two of the times he faced Ruto during the 2013 and 2017 polls where Ruto and Uhuru emerged winners on both occasions albeit with claims of rigging from Raila.
