Africa-Press – Kenya. 2018 marked an end to an era marred with political animosity and unrest as President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, then bitter protagonists, shook hands and buried their differences.

The deep-rooted hatred which had existed between the two leaders dates back to the early years of Kenya’s independence when their fathers fell out.

But the warring factions placed the country’s interest first and buried the hatchet.

The gesture on March 9, 2018, on the steps of Harambee House, has since brought progress in Kisumu county, cutting across infrastructure, social economics and improved living standards for residents.

Nakuru- Kisumu Railway

The iconic Nakuru Railway Station is a key transit station for cargo and passenger train services to and from Western Kenya.

Its connection to Kisumu, coupled with the rehabilitation of the Longonot–Malaba MGR and Nakuru-Kisumu MGR will expand trade across East Africa and is estimated to significantly reduce transport and logistics costs.

Its linkage to Kisumu promises economic vibrancy for the lakeside city and expansive economic opportunities for residents.

New Ultra-Modern Kisumu Railway Station

Uhuru officially opened the new ultra-modern Kisumu Railway Station on Tuesday.

The station is located along Busia Road next to Kisumu Cotton Mills (KICOMI).

The rail transport will boost Kisumu’s status as an economic hub in the Western Kenya region and lower the cost of ferrying goods along the line.

Uhuru said it will also stimulate growth of industries that will create jobs for the youth in Kisumu.

Siaya-Bondo Water Project

Uhuru, officially opened the Sh1.6 billion Kodiaga-Wagai-Onyirore/Akala, and Nyangweso-Muhanda road circuit, and the Sh2.4 billion Siaya-Bondo water supply and sanitation project.

Water project will support more than 1,500 residents who have been facing difficulties accessing the commodity.

Kenya Marine Fisheries Project

Uhuru gave the lakeside residents a reason to smile after he launched a Sh10 billion project in fisheries.

“Once successfully completed, we expect this project to contribute to sustainable exploitation of Kenya’s marine fisheries,” the President said while launching the project .
