Africa-Press – Kenya. IEBC on Friday held a high-level meeting with the Kenya Media Sector Working Group on the election preparedness ahead of the August 9 polls.

The meeting in Diani, Kwale County focused on strengthening media engagement on election result management throughout the election period.

“The convention will allow editors and reporters to understand the level of preparedness by the IEBC towards delivery of credible elections on August 9,” IEBC said in a statement.

The meeting also focused on the adoption of a protocol on media access to information, including election results.

The statement said a national dialogue will be held to bring together duty bearers, members of the public and media.

The platform will allow participants to assess the contribution of different duty bearers towards maintaining peace and credible elections.

Protocol for reporting of election results by the media will also be discussed for approval.

The goal is to assess the level of electoral preparedness by the IEBC and other stakeholders on elections reporting.

Representatives from the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the Joy News media house shared practical perspectives on the relation between the electoral commission and media in results management in their country.

Ghana is recognized globally as one of the nations where media participation in publishing of election results has played a major role in boosting public confidence during elections.
