Africa-Press – Kenya. Suspended Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Wainaina has asked all the varsity staff and students to denounce the current administration.
In a letter, Prof. Wainaina noted that the current administration was not properly installed and had no authority to undertake any business at the institution.
He has been fighting the current KU Council following his ouster on July 22 over disagreement with the government on land transfer at the institution.
“The former University Council and I were illegally hounded out of office for resisting Executive impunity to surrender 410 acres of Kenyatta University land without regard to laid out procedures and our 10-year Strategic and Vision Plan.
“They wasted no time in ceding the same in letters to Harambee and Ardhi houses, which they backdated to the date the Order was issued. This is blatant contempt of court and justice will be served soon,” Pro. Wainaina stated.
According to Wainaina, the current administration was hand-picked to fasten the handover of disputed 410 piece of land.
His letter comes two days after the Court allowed the State to hive off part of the land for the construction of the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) state-of-the-art emergency hub in Africa.
“The current Council and Acting Vice-Chancellor were hand-picked to quickly do what we refused to do; surrender 410 acres of KU land to the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning. Despite a Court Order against any further dealings on the land in dispute,” Wainaina added.
While delivering the verdict, Justice Oscar Angote, differed with the institution noting that the government had no ill intention in taking over the land.
The judge argued that the government project could not be halted, thus ordering Thika Superhighway-based institution to surrender the land to the government.
“The court is satisfied that the re-planning process outlined in the government request was for the benefit of the university, the hospital and residents,” Justice Angote ruled.
The state had asked the University to surrender part of the land to Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital (KUTRH) – WHO and squatters in the area.
Chrispus Kiamba, noted that Prof. Wainaina was replaced by Waceke Wanjohi to serve in an interim capacity in a statement that was issued by the KU Chairman of Council, Chrispus Kiamba.
