Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>A section of Azimio leaders from Mt Kenya region has termed President William Ruto’s development tour of the Central region a ‘publicity stunt’.<\/p>\n

Addressing the press Tuesday, the leaders who included Martha Karua, Peter Munya and Jeremiah Kioni claimed Ruto was touring the region to try and redeem his image.<\/p>\n

They claimed the projects being commissioned were started years ago “and so the visit was of no value”.<\/p>\n

“They are launching projects started and completed two years ago…some even by the counties,” said former Governor Nderitu Mureithi in a joint statement.<\/p>\n

“This regime is yet, in fact, to complete any new project on its own,” he said.<\/p>\n

He cited the Kiganjo KCC in Nyahururu launched Tuesday by Ruto as some of the projects which had been completed and launched.<\/p>\n

Ruto who is on a whirlwind visit to the region has commissioned water, health and road projects in various counties in the region.<\/p>\n

He, however, defended this during an interview Sunday.<\/p>\n

The head of state insisted that he played a key role in the planning and launching of road projects during the previous administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have heard some people saying that Ruto and Riggy G have come here to open roads that were built by the other government. I am not a visitor here in Mt Kenya. Many roads here, if you ask these MPs, I spoke with them, many roads here in Mt Kenya, I came to start them,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Mureithi also noted that the new taxes introduced and the removal of subsidies have overburdened and continued to pile pressure on the people from the region.<\/p>\n

“Kenyans are now hopeless and as leaders, we are not going to keep quiet. Kenyans are struggling yet we are told this is the hustler government,” said Munya.<\/p>\n

The former governor further alleged that the fertilizer being distributed by the government was a donation from the Russian government.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the leaders downplayed claims that the region has been sidelined in the Azimio bipartisan talks.<\/p>\n
