Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>ODM leader Raila Odinga will on Friday lead his opposition team for prayer sessions at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Park in Bondo.<\/p>\n

Through a statement, the Azimio La Umoja coalition said the interdenominational prayers will be for victims of police brutality during the anti-government protests.<\/p>\n

\u201cRaila Amolo Odinga will tomorrow, August 11, 2023, lead Azimio Kenya Coalition in interdenominational prayers for those who lost their lives during demonstrations following disproportionate use of force by the Police,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n

Part of the statement also stated that the Azimio leaders will use the occasion to condemn the Kenya Police Service and demand that those who were involved in the killings be held personally responsible.<\/p>\n

\u201cAzimio will also be asking the ICC to take a keener interest in the Kenya situation which they describe as crimes against humanity,” the statement reads.<\/p>\n

During the July protests, 17 people were killed, most of the victims had gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n

Police said among the victims who were found dead was one Raphael Shigali, Nairobi open bantamweight champion.<\/p>\n

In Mukuru slums, one Bernard Kilonzi, 43, died after he was hit in the chest with a teargas canister.<\/p>\n

His death prompted a protest in the area with residents accusing police of being behind the incident.<\/p>\n

It is believed that the deceased was coming from Mukuru health centre when he was hit by teargas on the chest and died on the spot.<\/p>\n

The deceased had physical injuries on the chest and a deep cut on the neck.<\/p>\n
