Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Former State House chief of staff Nzioka Waita has opened up intrigues that came before he officially threw himself into the murky waters of politics.<\/p>\n

According to Waita, the moment he told former President Uhuru Kenyatta that he wanted to join politics, he broke into laughter.<\/p>\n

He then told him that politics was not like the job he was used to, where he directed people to do things and they did.<\/p>\n

“One day in October 2021, I gathered the courage and told my boss (former President Uhuru Kenyatta) Sir, you know you are retiring and I just want to ask you what you think my interest will be should I vie for a political seat.<\/p>\n

“Usually, he was multitasking, stopped everything he was doing looked at me and started laughing. He (Uhuru) then said, Waita, you think hii ni ile kazi mmezoea hapa, where you wake up and tell people to do things and they do them. Do you know politics really?” Waita narrated on Engage.<\/p>\n

The former State House chief of staff said Uhuru then told him that if he was indeed serious about joining politics, he needed to go and talk to three people.<\/p>\n

They were his mother, his wife and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.<\/p>\n

Waita said his mother was reluctant at first but said she was okay with it if he really wanted to do it.<\/p>\n

He said it took some convincing for his wife to allow him to seek an elective office.<\/p>\n

“My last consultation was with the de facto political leader of my community. I took myself to see him (Kalonzo Musyoka). I had done this trip many times, but on different missions but this time it was different because what he was going to say actually mattered.”<\/p>\n

Waita said after he had put in his request, Kalonzo asked him to stay out of the Machakos governor race and he’d appoint him to a state role if they got elected, but he defied him and proceeded to vie for office.<\/p>\n
