Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Eldoret City Marathon scheduled for October 1 has landed new sponsors.<\/p>\n

Gulf Royal and Economic Global Holding will sponsor the race that has always attracted top-notch athletes.<\/p>\n

Race director Moses Tanui said winners in both the men’s and women’s categories will pocket Sh3.5 million. Additionally, he revealed that the top 20 athletes in the race will also be rewarded.<\/p>\n

Tanui was speaking in Eldoret when he signed the partnership with the new sponsors. The double Boston Marathon champion pointed out that the collaboration marks a new era for the marathon as it heads to its fourth edition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe prize money for this year will be the same as last year where the winner will receive Sh3.5 million. We will also reward the top 20 athletes in both men’s and women’s categories. Apart from the cash prize, there will be other prizes to be won by the athletes with the first 50 to cross the finish line receiving a blanket each,” said Tanui.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe sponsorship is a testament to the sponsors’ dedication to growing and positioning talents within the athletics fraternity,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The former world 10,000m silver medalist revealed that the new sponsors are set to establish a long-term partnership with the Eldoret City Marathon.<\/p>\n

” They are keen to establish a state-of-the-art training facility in Eldoret that meets international standards and makes it a hub for advanced athletic training and talent.”<\/p>\n

He announced that registration for the marathon is ongoing for Sh1,500 as he encouraged all the participants to keep on training. He added that they plan to invite international athletes to the race.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a marathon in which we really want to tap talents in order to produce new champions. We want to take this marathon to the next level. We want to become the richest marathon in Africa and to compete with the likes of the Boston and London marathons,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

With the theme of Climate Action, he said the marathon’s intention is to set aside money for tree seedlings to be planted to counter the effects of climate change in a bid to ensure athletes train in a better and more conducive environment.<\/p>\n
