Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Pressure continues to pile on police boss Japhet Koome with the opposition demanding for his immediate resignation over utterances on hired bodies.<\/p>\n

Furious opposition leaders on Friday sustained pressure on the Inspector General of Police terming his utterances insensitive at a time the families are coming to terms with the death of their loved ones felled by the police bullet.<\/p>\n

Koome on Tuesday disputed the cases of deaths being claimed by the opposition during the demos saying politicians hired bodies from the mortuary to discredit police.<\/p>\n

“It is so unfortunate that some senior members of the society go to the mortuary hiring dead bodies, calling the media and telling them that these people were killed by the police. How low can some of our leaders sink?” Koome posed.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Bondo, Siaya county, during the funeral service of the victims of the police brutality, Azimio leaders demanded the removal of Koome insisting he is unfit to hold office.<\/p>\n

The service attended by Azimio leader Raila Odinga, Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua condemned police brutality and urged the international community to turn their focus on Kenya.<\/p>\n

The former Vice President said IG is unfit to hold office following the spate of killings that have been happening during Azimio demos.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only way he can get away with this is to resign. Even if he resigns, it is not enough. We have been in demonstrations before, but this time it was a war not tear gas. They wanted to finish our people and Raila Odinga,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy advice today, if there is rule of law in Kenya then the President can also sack him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said Kenya is a nation under police brutality.<\/p>\n

“He does not qualify to be the Inspector General of police. How can he say politicians hired bodies?” he said.<\/p>\n

Raila termed the brutality meted out on protesters, especially in Luo Nyanza counties, a case of ethnic profiling.<\/p>\n

The Azimio chief warned the government against using the same Hitler tactics to profile a community even as he challenged the international community to “come out strongly”.<\/p>\n

“We want the international community to take note of this. This is unacceptable, we want the diplomatic community in Nairobi not to keep quiet but stand with Kenyans,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I have lived long in Germany when Hitler targeted the Jews, he came with the final solution and started to attack and kill the Jews the problem started this way.”<\/p>\n

The former Prime Minister added police has not yet transformed into a service since the current Constitution came into force.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the same function MPs Opondo Kaluma (Homa Bay Town), Joshua Oron (Kisumu Central), Sam Atandi (Alego Usonga), Roza Buyu (Kisumu West) and Otiende Amollo (Rarieda) vowed to move an impeachment motion against Koome.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs leaders we must not be crying, the Constitution allows for the bringing of a petition to remove the IG who is rogue,\u201d Opondo said.<\/p>\n

Atandi said, \u201cMany of our people have died and this is not the first time, the price of killing a Luo must now be made expensive. What has happened to us is genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n

Otiende said Koome should take responsibility for the action of his officers who were on a killing spree in opposition zones.<\/p>\n

He termed the IG\u2019s remarks insensitive and akin to someone dancing on the grave of innocent Kenyans.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to tell Koome that instead of doing your work you are busy dancing on the graves of victims of police brutality. Shame on you,\u201d Otiende stated.<\/p>\n
