\nAfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> You are likely to be infected with coronavirus in Mombasa County as compared to Nairobi County despite the latter racking up higher infection numbers.Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi (pictured<\/strong>) on Wednesday announced that Mombasa had an attack rate of 107 while Nairobi\u2019s attack rate stood at 55.<\/p>\n

Attack rate is the percentage of a population that contracts a disease in an at risk population during a specified period. Generally, epidemiologists describe it as the\u00a0proportion\u00a0of\u00a0persons\u00a0who\u00a0are\u00a0exposed\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0disease\u00a0during\u00a0the\u00a0outbreak\u00a0who\u00a0do\u00a0become\u00a0ill<\/p>\n

\u201cThese statistics are very important. It tells us that the risk of you getting Covid-19 is higher in Mombasa compared to Nairobi County. And again, we are working to ensure that we are actually able to define risk per county,\u201d she said.The virus now has a foothold in 40 out of the 47 counties. Nairobi has the highest number of coronavirus cases followed by Mombasa County.<\/p>\n

The two have been described as the high risk counties.As of June 24, Nairobi cases stood at 2,428, Mombasa had 1,304 cases, Busia and Kajiado had 361 and 179 cases respectively.The high numbers in Busia and Kajiado has been pegged to the cross border transmission as a result of the movement of truck drivers.<\/p>\n

Cases<\/strong><\/p>\n

As of June 24, Nairobi cases stood at 2,428, Mombasa had 1,304 cases, Busia and Kajiado had 361 and 179 cases respectively.The high numbers in Busia and Kajiado has been pegged to the cross border transmission as a result of the movement of truck drivers.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health reported 254 new Covid-19 cases from 4,859 samples tested in the past 24 hours, raising the number of cases in the country to 5,206.<\/p>\n

Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi said the total number of tests carried out since the onset of the outbreak now stands at 151,396.All the positive cases are Kenyans, with 186 males and 68 females, with the youngest being four years old and the oldest 92.<\/p>\n

The 254 positive cases are distributed in counties as follows; Nairobi (127), Mombasa (36), Migori (29), Kajiado (22), Kiambu (12), Busia (9), Uasin Gishu (5), Muranga (3), Machakos and Kilifi, (2), cases each, Nakuru, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Garissa, Isiolo, Kakamega, and Kisii, one (1) case each.Nairobi cases are from; Westlands, (32), Dagoretti North, (18), Langata, (16), Kamukunji, (14), Embakasi East, (12), Makadara, (10), Embakasi South, (8), Kasarani, (4), Ruaraka, (3), Starehe Kibra, Embakasi North, and Embakasi Central, (2), cases each, Royasambu, and Mathare, (1), case each.<\/p>\n

In Mombasa, the 36 cases are from Mvita, (11), Jomvu, (8), Kisauni, and Likoni (5) cases each, Changamwe, (4), and Nyali (3).All the (29) cases in Migori are from Suna East. In Kajiado, the (22) cases are from Kajiado Central, (18), Kajiado North, and Kajiado East, (2) cases each.The Ministry also announced that 41 patients had been discharged from various hospitals, bringing the tally of recoveries to 1,823.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, two more patients had succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of those fatalities to 130.\u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the departed during this difficult time,\u201d Dr Mwangangi said.At the same time, she thanked the health workers and volunteers who were working to ensure the Home Based and Isolation care program is well implemented.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to thank our healthcare workers as well as the Community Health Volunteers who have been working tirelessly on our Home Based and Isolation care program.
