Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The government will collaborate with the European Union(EU) and China to advance its digital transformation agenda to ensure the safety of the citizen’s data.<\/p>\n

Information, Communications, and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo said he held two different talks with delegates from EU and China to find a way forward in achieving digital advancement.<\/p>\n

“We are expressing optimism of forging and establishing a joint engagement with the EU to enhance the government’s digital transformation agenda,” he said.<\/p>\n

Owalo said Kenya is strategising on improving its policy, legal and regulatory framework on data protection.<\/p>\n

The CS also noted that the meeting was the first Kenya-EU bilateral engagement.<\/p>\n

“With the recent cases of breach of data security and rising cases of cybercrime witnessed in the past, we will be willing to benchmark and customize on relevant laws to ring fence data protection through the enactment of appropriate laws and statutes,” he said.<\/p>\n

The CS said so far the country has included over 5,000 government services on the e-citizen platform and is keen to observe a risk mitigation framework against any cyber-attacks.<\/p>\n

The EU Ambassador to Kenya Henriette Geiger said that they are ready to collaborate by supporting the digital plan.<\/p>\n

“Kenya is a key partner in digital governance in Africa. It is important to get it right with you so that Kenya could stand as an example for others,” Geiger said.<\/p>\n

In another meeting with the delegation from China, Owalo said the government has embarked on a major digital transformation agenda and enhancement of ICT infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The meeting was led by the Minister for Culture and Tourism Hu Heping and the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Zhou Pingjian.<\/p>\n
