Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said the stadium that was vandalised in Busia during protests should not be rebuilt.<\/p>\n

The DP said the Busia Stadium will only be rebuilt if the residents prove that they will not destroy public properties again.<\/p>\n

“Ati mnataka pesa ya kujenga Stadium ambayo hawa watu walibomoa wenyewe? How? Na wakenya wengine ambao hawana stadium tutawaambia nini? Tutawacha kujengea wale hawana tujenga ya wale walibomoa wenyewe? That is difficult,” he said.<\/p>\n

This is loosely translated to; You mean to say you want money to rebuild and repair a Stadium that was vandalised by its own locals? How? And what are we supposed to tell those other Kenyans who have no stadiums? Do you want us to stop building new stadiums and renovate one that was destroyed? That request is a difficult one.<\/p>\n

Gachagua however said that the county government should put the request in writing, indicating that if the stadium is renovated, it won’t be vandalised again.<\/p>\n

“This stadium is yours, you are the people who play several games in it, protect it. I am requesting you, governor to put it in writing and give me a copy so that it won’t be destroyed again,” he said.<\/p>\n

Gachagua was responding to a request made by Busia Governor Paul Otuom who had requested President William Ruto to help in renovating the Buisa Stadium which was vandalised in July during Azimio La Umoja’s anti-government protest.<\/p>\n

“Ile stadium utaenda kuona, ilianguka yote, io utanisaidia. Waliangusha yote. Very unfortunate,” he requested.<\/p>\n

(You will go and see the stadium, it was fully vandalised, I request your help in rebuilding it. They vandalised it. Very unfortunate.)<\/p>\n
