Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Listed agribusiness firm Kakuzi Plc has delivered 181 Boran breeding heifers worth Sh13.5million to Uganda, in a diversification bid to grow its business.<\/p>\n

Marking the completion of the inaugural export delivery, the firm says it is keen on furthering its diversification plan for more revenue.<\/p>\n

This is from its commercial forestry, macadamia, avocado, blueberry, tea and livestock investments.<\/p>\n

Kakuzi’s managing director Chris Flowers said their business lines provide much-needed leverage to unlock value and ramp up target profits based on the business diversification strategy.<\/p>\n

“Although our blueberry volumes are still significantly low vis-a-vis the avocado and macadamia outputs, the revenue stream remains firmly within the business plans and inspires further investments,” Flowers said.<\/p>\n

He added that the performance of the tea, forestry, livestock and arable land operations continue to play their important role in the crop portfolio.<\/p>\n

The breeding heifers from Kakuzi\u2019s Makuyu livestock paddocks have been were delivered to Mpala Farm, in Kawempe Division, Central Uganda.<\/p>\n

The exports come on the back of a steady recovery of the firm\u2019s livestock operations from the recent drought, with sales beginning to pick.<\/p>\n

Flowers further said the Kakuzi goat meat venture is also expected to boost growth, with initial sales due to commence in the second half of this year.<\/p>\n

Under the livestock business stream, Kakuzi is currently rearing a herd of more than 4,420 Boran cattle.<\/p>\n

The firm has also expanded its Rhodes grass production to meet demand from Murang\u2019a, Kiambu, Nyeri, Meru and Laikipia livestock farmers.<\/p>\n
