Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>A sudden death try by Charles Odhiambo handed Nondescripts their maiden National Sevens Circuit title as they won the Tisap 7s at the Eldoret Sports Club on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n

Nondies recorded a 12-7 win against Strathmore University in their first in the competition since 2000. Nondies led 7-0 inside three minutes after a try by Moses Begi and Daniel Okito’s conversion.<\/p>\n

But three minutes later, Leos’ Andrew Matoka touched down with Stephen Osumba adding the extras to level the scores at the break. The teams were inseparable until the very last minutes when Odiambo touched down to seal the win for Nondies. Nondies head coach Benedict Nyambu praised his team for their first victory in 23 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis win has come from far. I can say hard work pays and that has been proven here in Eldoret. Our strategy was that, when the ball bounces, we regroup. That is why we have won in sudden death. This win is a real boost as we head to Kabeberi 7s in Nairobi,” said Nyambu.<\/p>\n

Skipper Fidel Oloo, nicknamed ‘The Baboon’ said: \u201cWe were well prepared for this tournament. It is history we have made, playing in the final for the first time since 2000.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the semifinals, the champions edged Menengai Oilers 10-7 while Leos were 8-5 winners over Mwamba. At the quarterfinals, Oilers beat KCB 10-5 as Nondies defeated Kisumu 10-07. In the other quarterfinal, Mwamba shocked series leaders Kabras 19-5.<\/p>\n

In the bronze medal match, Mwamba edged Oilers 12-7. United States International University (USIU) were the Division One winners following their 21-19 win over Tisap co-hosts Moi University side Arsonists.<\/p>\n
