Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>DCI Director Mohamed Amin on Tuesday morning met with Interior CS Kithure Kindiki and Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo over the crisis in the production certificates of good conduct.<\/p>\n

Kindiki said they canvassed the strategy for IT system upgrade and set in motion the timetable for clearing the backlog of the documents.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are committed to addressing the prevailing and unacceptable situation of unavailability of Police Clearance Documents (certificates of good conduct) at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Kindiki had earlier on Monday visited the offices of the Directorate of Civil Registration Services (CRS) to assess the efficiency of the registration of births and deaths.<\/p>\n

He said he wanted to get first-hand feedback on the experiences of members of the public who seek these critical government services.<\/p>\n

The processing of the Certificate of Good Conduct at DCI Headquarters was Thursday fully restored after the duration of system upgrade.<\/p>\n

Amin said the office of the Principal Criminal Registrar (PCR) had effected pragmatic measures to clear the backlog resulting from the temporary system hitches, which saw the unit resort to manual processing to address dire cases.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe highly regret the delays experienced over the period, and assure our clients of enhanced and expeditious services.\u201d<\/p>\n

The PCR further clarified that applicants no longer need to book fingerprinting dates on the eCitizen portal, but must select their preferred fingerprinting centres based on convenience.<\/p>\n

More so, to avoid instances of return to sender, applicants are reminded to ensure that the ID card copies attached to the filled application forms are well duplicated, with attention to the thumbprint impression.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe DCI pledges its commitment to continue executing its mandate with dedication, care and integrity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The production of the documents had stalled for months affecting many applicants\u2019 plans.<\/p>\n

This was among others occasioned by nonpayment for the services and a planned upgrade of the software used in the exercise.<\/p>\n

This prompted many to raise questions as to why officials were not paying attention to the breakdown.<\/p>\n

Some applicants say they have been waiting for the documents for up to seven months.<\/p>\n

The DCI is now rushing to clear the backlog same as the Department of Immigration, which faced similar challenges of production.<\/p>\n

The Police Clearance Certificates are crucial for many who for instance need jobs and want to travel to some countries.<\/p>\n
