Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Majority of Kenyans support the creation of the Office of Leader of Opposition, a survey by Trends and Insights For Africa (Tifa) has said.<\/p>\n

From the survey, at least 45 per cent of respondents strongly support the creation of the office, while another 17 per cent are okay with the position.<\/p>\n

However, 21 per cent strongly oppose the creation.<\/p>\n

From the survey, 13 per cent neither oppose nor support the creation of the office, while 5 per cent of respondents somewhat oppose the creation of the office.<\/p>\n

The office was proposed by President William Ruto first in a letter to the National Assembly and now forms part of the Bipartisan talks.<\/p>\n

In the poll, 48 per cent of respondents said accepting the office will weaken the Opposition outfit, while 36 per cent believe it will make the opposition stronger.<\/p>\n

Another 16 per cent believe it will make no difference at all.<\/p>\n

The survey by Tifa is on the State of Kenyan Politics; Bipartisan Talks and Political Alignment.<\/p>\n

The survey was conducted between September 8 – September 10, 2023. It involved 1,007 respondents.<\/p>\n

Data was collected through Telephonic Interviews conducted (with respondents whose contacts were collected through previous face-to-face (i.e., household-based interviews)<\/p>\n

“Interviews conducted in Swahili (mainly) and English,” Tifa said.<\/p>\n

Nationally Representative Sample was spread across nine zones; Central Rift, Coast, Lower Eastern, Mt Kenya, Nairobi, Northern, Nyanza, South Rift, and Western, with a margin error of +\/- 3.1%.<\/p>\n
