Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has exuded confidence that he will clinch the Nairobi Governor seat in the 2027 general election.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Sunday in Kakamega County, Wanyonyi said he was poised to become the county’s chief executive at the August 9 polls but boardroom consensus in the Azimio coalition cost him the opportiunity.<\/p>\n

“As Westlands MP last election I was contesting for the position of the governor of Nairobi and everybody knew who was going to win. I dropped out because of infighting and coalition agreements,” he said.<\/p>\n

The MP was speaking during an interdenominational prayer and thanksgiving service in Shinyalu, Kakamega County.<\/p>\n

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula and other key leaders from Western Kenya were present.<\/p>\n

“However, the worst of it is that the people who campaigned to ensure I did not become Nairobi governor were my fellow Luhyas. They went to tell Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta that I cannot be Nairobi governor because I didn’t fit the position and could wait for another slot,” Wanyonyi said.<\/p>\n

On May 1, 2022, Wanyonyi said Tim he agreed not to run for the top county seat because his party leader Raila Odinga had been cleared to run for President under the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance.<\/p>\n

He said under the pact with other Azimio affiliate parties, it had been decided that ODM takes the Presidency while the Jubilee Party of former President Uhuru Kenyatta takes the Nairobi Governor\u2019s seat.<\/p>\n

“Because of the arrangement of parties to work together, it comes along with its challenges. And it is due to those challenges that it was agreed that because ODM had been given the presidency, we had to relinquish the Nairobi Governor\u2019s seat for Jubilee,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The MP spoke while addressing ODM grassroots leaders in Westlands Constituency when he officially kicked off campaigns to retain his parliamentary seat.<\/p>\n

Following the pact, Jubilee’s Johnson Sakaja was fronted by Azimio as their gubernatorial candidate for Nairobi in the August polls.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Wanyonyi said he was now focused on going for the governor’s seat, this time even stronger.<\/p>\n

The MP said he was banking on the new-found Luhya unity to propel him to the top seat<\/p>\n

“I’m coming back, 2027 I’ll be the governor of Nairobi God willing. Now we have the Western MPs’ caucus that I will be working with,” he said.<\/p>\n

“They are going to propel me forward. Today we are here with the National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, this means that Luhya unity is finally here,” he said.<\/p>\n
