Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Progress made by countries towards sustainable development goal 8 on attaining sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all is well off track.<\/p>\n

This is according to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in its recent update on the progress of the aforementioned development goal.<\/p>\n

It reiterates that the current progress is on nearly two-thirds of the indicators of progress.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn general, the international community today is almost as far from reaching the targets of SDG 8 as it was in 2015,\u201d says the lobby.<\/p>\n

It says much still needs to be done on the goal because of its unique nature among all the other development goals.<\/p>\n

This is because it covers three dimensions of sustainable development, integrating economic, social and environmental issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs such, it embodies the principle that sustainable development is only possible if advances are made in all three areas.\u201d<\/p>\n

It says the current actions are not yet advancing at the speed or scale required, calling for circular cumulative process to drive balanced progress.<\/p>\n

Further identifies patterns and imbalances in the existing policy framework that require re adjustments.<\/p>\n

This while promoting collective capabilities and international cooperation, mobilizing investment, technological change and innovation, and economic structural transformation.<\/p>\n

In Kenya according to SDGs Kenya Forum, the path towards a sustainable world by 2030 has so far been marked by both successes and challenges.<\/p>\n

The forum\u2019s executive director Florence Syevuo says SDG 13, focused on climate action for instance, has notably witnessed commendable progress in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis progress can be attributed, in part, to the concerted efforts to increase tree cover and address climate change,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

She however says while advancements have been made in some niches, it is clear that there is more work that needs to be done towards attaining the set goals for all SDGs.<\/p>\n

To propel the progress, she emphasizes the potential of using parliamentary voices to rally support for SDG projects at both the individual and county levels.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy leveraging the influence of parliamentarians, policymakers can facilitate the implementation of SDG initiatives, leading to a more significant impact.\u201d<\/p>\n

The forum also highlights Kenya\u2019s Voluntary Sub-National Review, which showcases the localisation of the SDGs at the sub-national level, the role of counties and cities in driving SDGs progress from the grassroots level.<\/p>\n

ILO in its policy brief also insists on increased multilateral and national action to accelerate progress on SDGs, specifically goal number eight.<\/p>\n

This is to strengthen both the pace and pattern of sustainable development, as well as the entire 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.<\/p>\n
