Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Sports CS Ababu Namwamba has termed the move by Caf to award \u2018Pamoja\u2019 Bid rights to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as a major boost to East Africa for the game of football to grow and develop the sport in Africa.<\/p>\n

The hosts were announced after Caf’s executive meeting at their headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The African football governing body announced that the 2027 finals would be played in East Africa and Morocco would replace Guinea who were stripped of the rights to host the 2025 finals.<\/p>\n

The Pamoja bid was a joint effort by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda and it saw off bids from Botswana, Egypt, and Senegal to host the most prestigious tournament in the continent<\/p>\n

Speaking after the announcement of the host nations, Ababu said the move was a shot in the arm for integration in the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cHosting this tournament together for me is such a big shot in the arm for integration. But it is also an opportunity to send a message we can do things together successfully,\u201d the sports CS said.<\/p>\n

He further added that it was a big privilege for the region to host such a massive tournament and that it would grow the game in East Africa by a huge margin.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can host an incredible tournament of this magnitude together and it will be a great opportunity to grow the game in East Africa and the game will surely grow,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the first time ever in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations, we will have Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya playing side by side in this tournament.\u201d<\/p>\n

In its bid, Kenya presented the Moi International Sports Complex in Kasarani, Nyayo Stadium, and Kipchoge Keino as the major facilities that will host the games.<\/p>\n

Namwamba had earlier handed over the three facilities to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to renovate the stadiums in readiness for the continental matches.<\/p>\n
