Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua received a round of applause from Meru leaders after he decided to keep off the raging political wrangles.<\/p>\n

Gachagua who was speaking during a church service at Kaelo in the county said he would no longer intervene to broker a truce between the feuding leaders.<\/p>\n

He told the gathering that he had been requested by a section of leaders from the county to steer clear of the matter.<\/p>\n

“Hii ni shida ya Meru,” he said amidst deafening cheers from the crowd.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, tumesema hawa vingozi na watu ya kanisa wameuliza rais William Ruto na mimi tukae kando kwa hivyo mimi ningetaka kuomba gavana, deputy governor, senator, CS Linturi na watu ya kanisa muketi na mdecide what is good for Meru,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

This loosely translates to (The church and leaders have asked President William Ruto and myself to keep off. Therefore, I am requesting the governor, deputy governor, senator, CS Linturi and the church to sit and decide what is good for Meru)<\/p>\n

He, however, cautioned the leaders to be careful so as not to break the unity of the people something he said might cost the county of its development prospects.<\/p>\n

\u201cNa mjue hii Meru is very important to President Ruto and I, bila ya kura ya wameru sisi hatungekuwa kwa ofisi, sisi tungetaka kusema Meru ikikosa maendeleo tutahuzunika sana na kwa hivyo nawaomba nyninyi muongee ndio murudishe temperatures chini ndio tusipate aibu tena,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

(You should know Meru is important to President Ruto and myself. Without your votes, we wouldn’t be in office. We would like to say we will be sad if Meru lacks development. I am requesting you to talk and reduce the temperatures to avoid shame)<\/p>\n

He directed the leaders to sit and agree on how to address the issues at the county which he said threatens to deny residents the much yearned development.<\/p>\n

Gachagua is credited with uniting the county boss and the ward representatives in the first bid to remove her from office.<\/p>\n

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza stares at the risk of being impeached for the second time in just 10 months after 61 out of the county’s 69 MCAs expressed support for the ouster bid.<\/p>\n

The ward representatives include 27 from President William Ruto’s UDA party, 21 from the Devolution Empowerment Party, 10 from Jubilee and three from the National Ordinary Peoples Empowerment Union.<\/p>\n

The impeachment motion is being crafted and will be tabled in the assembly soon.
