Kenyatta University\u2019s Blak Blad were the only movers in the Kenya Cup standings after round 11 following their 44-0 thrashing of another struggling side, Western Bulls at the weekend.<\/p>\n
The victory saw the students rise to 10th with 13 points, consequently easing their relegation worries with five matches remaining in the regular season.<\/p>\n
Western Bulls and Kisumu RFC, who suffered their 10th defeat of the campaign after losing 55-7 to champions KCB at the Kisumu Polytechnich, occupy the two relegation slots (11th and 12th).<\/p>\n
Matchday 11 saw 290 points scored across the six venues, a drop from the 338 witnessed during round 10 fixtures.<\/p>\n
All the winning sides, save for Nakuru RFC, picked a bonus-point for scoring more than four tries while Mwamba managed to get one bonus point for not losing by more than seven points in their 18-13 loss to Nakuru.<\/p>\n
The result saw Mwamba suffer their second successive defeat hence falling four points below the playoffs positions.<\/p>\n
It was an afternoon of missed chances for Mwamba, who conceded all the 18 points in the first half before they emerged stronger from the half-time break.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe tried to slow down the game but unfortunately, we overdid it. Things could have been different if the boys had taken their chances earlier. Our second half substitutes had a huge impact and the momentum changed in our favour after we brought them in,\u201d said\u00a0Mwamba assistant coach Peterson Kepha.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur scrum down was stronger and we tried to use it to get some penalties but we just couldn\u2019t make them count.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nakuru coach Felix Oloo termed the win as a huge relief to his side, which had received a 38-0 hiding from Kabras Sugar in their first assignment of the year.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been losing to Mwamba for the past three years especially away from home, so breaking that jinx was very important for the team,\u201d Oloo said while ruing the absence of his front-row who had to be withdrawn from the team after falling ill.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor us, it\u2019s taking each match at a time. We now shift focus to Oilers and I hope we shall perform well since we have sorted the domestic issues that had been bogging us donw,\u201d added Oloo.<\/p>\n
At the same time, Kabras Sugar maintained their lead after beating Kenya Harlequin 34-3 in Kakamega.<\/p>\n
The sugar millers hold a one-point advantage over KCB, who are second with 49 points.<\/p>\n
