{"id":105383,"date":"2023-10-23T19:21:13","date_gmt":"2023-10-23T19:21:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/tala-picks-insider-as-kenya-gm"},"modified":"2023-10-23T20:03:02","modified_gmt":"2023-10-23T20:03:02","slug":"tala-picks-insider-as-kenya-gm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/tala-picks-insider-as-kenya-gm","title":{"rendered":"Tala picks insider as Kenya GM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Non-bank lender Tala, has named Annstella Mumbi as its new general manager for the Kenya unit.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to her appointment, she served as Tala\u2019s global director of growth and interim general manager for Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>She joins a list of a small number of women leading large technology companies in Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>Mumbi is a business executive with a decade of experience cutting across fintech, EdTech and venture funding having held multiple roles in strategy, growth, expansion and overall business leadership.<\/p>\n<p>She has worked in various markets such as Rwanda, Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, and Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>She holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is able to bring the Kenya leadership team together and rally Tala around a bold vision for Kenya\u2019s next phase of growth,\u201d Tala chief business officer, Jori Pearsall, said in a statement<\/p>\n<p>Tala is among the world\u2019s money App for the underbanked, bridging digital and cash ecosystems in emerging markets to help more people fully participate in the global economy.<\/p>\n<p>Today, it processes nearly $200 million (Sh30 billion) in monthly transactions for more than eight million customers in Kenya, the Philippines, Mexico, and India.<\/p>\n<p>The fintech credit provider has loaned out a cumulative $1.9 billion (285.1 billion) to Kenyans in over 3.5 million disbursements since it started operations in the country in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The firm has raised equity and debt funding from several investors among them Upstart, Stellar Enterprise Fund, RPS Ventures, J.
