{"id":105721,"date":"2023-10-28T16:00:08","date_gmt":"2023-10-28T16:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/eacc-arrests-traffic-police-for-demanding-forgiveness-fee"},"modified":"2023-10-28T17:28:52","modified_gmt":"2023-10-28T17:28:52","slug":"eacc-arrests-traffic-police-for-demanding-forgiveness-fee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/eacc-arrests-traffic-police-for-demanding-forgiveness-fee","title":{"rendered":"EACC arrests traffic police for demanding &#8216;forgiveness fee&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission has arrested a Kakamega-based traffic officer who allegedly demanded forgiveness fees to release a detained PSV vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The commission claimed the officer impounded and detained a matatu belonging to the complainant for allegedly picking passengers from an undesignated area.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The officer subsequently demanded that the complainant pay him a &#8216;forgiveness fee&#8217; in order to forgive him for the alleged traffic offence and release the detailed vehicle.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle had been detained at Kakamega Central police station.<\/p>\n<p>The cop was arrested following a complaint raised by the PSV owner.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect was processed at EACC Bungoma Regional Office and later in the evening booked at Bungoma Police Station pending further action.<\/p>\n<p>Further, EACC claimed that the suspected police is a notorious traffic police rider, who has developed a specialisation in impounding and detaining public service vehicles in police stations.<\/p>\n<p>The commission added that the arrested officer had not booked alleged offenders, and then he demanded money from the matatu operators in order to release the vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his arrest, the Commission had received numerous complaints against him from matatu operators.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Commission is working with the Office of the Inspector General and other government offices towards ensuring seamless and accountable enforcement of traffic laws devoid of corruption,&#8221; EACC said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\">Kenya<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya.
