Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenyans will be issued with the new digital identification cards from December, according to President William Ruto<\/p>\n

The digital ID will enable holders make transactions conveniently using their iris and fingerprints.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the launch of locally assembled mobile devices in Athi River, Ruto said that the Maisha Namba should be ready for launch by December.<\/p>\n

The card will also enable bearers to log in their personal details fully and access online government services swiftly.<\/p>\n

The changes will pave the way for electronic cards and registers as well as officially recognise the Unique Personal Identifier (UPI).<\/p>\n

The recent changes introduced by the Interior Cabinet Secretary represent a crucial milestone in the development of the Maisha Namba system.<\/p>\n

This move is expected to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and security in the registration and identification of individuals.<\/p>\n

The announcement comes a month after 10 local human rights groups wanted the government to halt the plan of rolling-out Maisha Namba, Unique Personal Identifier (UPI) as at September 29 halted.<\/p>\n

The groups claimed that the Maisha Namba introduction skipped important steps for improving the identification system.<\/p>\n

Kenya entered into agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in August this year to help build the country’s Digital Identity System.<\/p>\n
