Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The British Monarch King Charles III on Friday toured the Mombasa Memorial Cathedral amid tight security from both Kenya and the British government.<\/p>\n

The King was met by the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Mombasa, Bishop Alphonce Mwaro Baya.<\/p>\n

Also present was; The Governor of Mombasa County Abdulswamad Nassir and the Chief Executive Officer of the Coast Interfaith Council of Clerics Stephen Anyenda.<\/p>\n

His Majesty met Faith Leaders in the Women\u2019s Chapel before taking a seat alongside ten other members of the Coast Interfaith Council of Clerics.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis Majesty will hear a discussion on the role of interfaith dialogue in promoting peace, security and development with the Coast Interfaith Council of Clerics members,\u201d the British Commission said.<\/p>\n

The King then proceeded inside the Cathedral, where he viewed some of the building\u2019s architectural features before meeting the Cathedral\u2019s choir.<\/p>\n

The King then unveiled a plaque marking his visit, before departing.<\/p>\n

Mombasa Memorial Cathedral is the central church of the Anglican Church of Kenya\u2019s Diocese of Mombasa.<\/p>\n

The Cathedral was the first established in East Africa, and 2023 marks 120 years since the foundation stone was laid.<\/p>\n

The Coast Interfaith Council of Clerics is an organisation that has been working in the Coastal region of Kenya for over 15 years to promote peace, security and development.<\/p>\n

It has eight member organisations representing the Christian, Hindu, Muslim and African Traditional Faiths.<\/p>\n

Currently, it operates in six coastal counties: Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Lamu and Tana River as well as Nairobi and Garissa.<\/p>\n

C.I.C.C. works mainly with religious clerics, but also with women religious leaders and young religious leaders.<\/p>\n

During his visit to Mtongwe Naval Base on Thursday, King Charles III inspected the guard of honour in Mombasa after he was received by President William Ruto.<\/p>\n

King Charles III inspected a guard mounted by the Kenya Navy before witnessing Kenya Navy Marine Commandos (KNMC) conduct amphibious landing drills at Mtongwe jetty.<\/p>\n

The King and Queen Camilla arrived in Kenya on Monday night for a four-day state visit to the country.<\/p>\n

Their Majesties’ visit is at the invitation of President Ruto and comes as Kenya prepares to celebrate 60 years of independence.<\/p>\n

The UK and Kenya enjoy a deep and historical partnership in different areas of interest including Education.<\/p>\n

This partnership has supported Kenya to improve access to primary education and improve learning outcomes.<\/p>\n
