Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>China on Thursday launched a performance progress report for its businesses in the Kenya and Africa at large, seeking to track its green investment commitments.<\/p>\n

Dubbed \u2018The Corporate Social Responsibility report of Chinese Business in Africa\u2019, the report will focus on the fulfilment of social responsibilities by Chinese enterprises amid the green transition drive.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt also seeks to provide the international community with theoretical data and typical cases of business observation, professional analysis and suggestions from the perspective of social responsibilities in Africa for Chinese enterprises,\u201d said Yuan Chunkun, the general manager at China Road and Bridge Company, Kenya office.<\/p>\n

The report combines a large number of researches and highlights CSR performance effectiveness, restrictive factors and improvement suggestions.<\/p>\n

Chunkun said the performance report initiative would be a driving force to Kenya’s ambition of becoming a middle-income industrialised state by 2030.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the set initiative, China Road and Bridge is committed to construct more major infrastructures such as roads, bridges, ports and railways,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said entering the Kenyan market in 1984 CRBC has worked alongside Kenyan partners in several infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n

Chunkun highlighted the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway, Belt and Road cooperation; The Nairobi Expressway; The Mombasa KOT Oil Terminal and The Nairobi Ring Road as some of the projects undertaken in the country.<\/p>\n

In total, China Road and Bridge has undertaken 45 road projects in the country, with a total length exceeding 2,200 kilometres, along with four port projects, three inland port projects, two standard gauge railway projects, five meter gauge railway projects and four municipal projects.<\/p>\n

The report however, identifies internal and external factors that restrict the effectiveness of the social responsibility performance of Chinese enterprises.<\/p>\n

These include the need for further improvement of regulatory system of laws and regulations, the urgent need for the dual-consideration of international and domestic standards, weak sense of responsibility of some enterprises and the \u2018deficiency\u2019 of stakeholder relations.<\/p>\n

It suggests that the government build a new pattern of three-dimensional linkage of government guidance, enterprise leadership and society assistance, manage and give support in the same time to create a good environment for performing social responsibilities.<\/p>\n
