Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has planned a stakeholder conference to strategize on how to end drugs and substance abuse in the Coast region.<\/p>\n

The meeting, Gachagua said, will bring together political leaders, security agencies, county governments, and religious organizations from the region.<\/p>\n

“We have a problem with drugs at the Coast. I am coming to the Coast before Christmas for a stakeholders’ conference. We will come up with strategies together on ending the menace,” Gachagua said.<\/p>\n

The meeting follows similar conferences held in Rift Valley and Central regions.<\/p>\n

It resulted in a declaration of war on illicit brew, drugs and substance.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Kilifi, Gachagua said ridding the region of drugs will improve the economic prospects of the people.<\/p>\n

“We invite religious people to walk with us. Our children are being destroyed by unscrupulous people. We cannot allow that to continue,” he stated.<\/p>\n

Gachagua who is spearheading the campaign against the vice has called for concerted efforts as he warned local administrators and security teams against any attempts to sabotage it.<\/p>\n

A month ago, he went on record saying the government plans to send home about 100 chiefs across the country by Christmas for sleeping on the job.<\/p>\n

He stated that he would not let anyone ease up on the war especially now that the crackdown is bearing fruits.<\/p>\n

“I don’t want to fire chiefs but by this Christmas, if the brew is still there I have to sack 10 to 15 chiefs. It will be very painful for me. I love the chiefs but I love the young people more,” he said.<\/p>\n

He stated that the chiefs who will be sent home will serve as a lesson to others across the country who have also slept on their duties.<\/p>\n
