Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya Defence Forces bagged the 2023 Forces Inter-Disciplines Taekwondo League held at the Moi Airbase yesterday.<\/p>\n

Boasting an array of talent, the soldiers bagged the title after winning 16 gold, two silver, and six bronze medals.<\/p>\n

The hosts were unstoppable as they won both the men’s and women’s categories. The men won seven gold, two silver, and three bronze medals while the women had eight gold and two bronze medals.<\/p>\n

National Youth Service took second position with 16 medals\u2014one gold, 10 silver, and five bronze medals while the General Service Unit finished third with three silver and two bronze medals.<\/p>\n

The gold medallists for the army outfit in the men’s category were Geoffrey Ogonda in the welterweight category, Nusra Bakari (middleweight), Peter Kawra (fin weight), Maxwell Chaburu (flyweight) Stephen Odhiambo (bantamweight), Daniel Okello (feather) and Francis Masha (lightweight)<\/p>\n

In the women’s category, Rachel Muchina reigned supreme in the fin weight while Esther Owiti dominated the flyweight division.<\/p>\n

The two alongside\u2014Simeon Wayua (bantam), Doreen Matekwa(feather), Christabel Abuti(light), Sera Mwaniki (welter), Lucy Akinyi middle) and Jamil Sifuna (heavy) won gold medals.<\/p>\n

Team captain Francis Masha said they were delighted to win the overall trophy. \u201cIt’s been a tough season competing against the disciplined forces including the Police, General Service Unit, and NYS. Winning both the men’s and women’s titles was no mean achievement,” he said.<\/p>\n

He added they have set their sights on dominating next year’s campaign. \u201cWe will enjoy the victories we have had today but the task next year will be to defend the titles we have won and dominate again,” said Masha.<\/p>\n

Moi Airbase Base commander, Brigadier Samuel Kiporir, thanked the teams that graced the one-day event for their sportsmanship.<\/p>\n

“I would like to thank the teams that have participated today for showcasing their talent. We hope next year’s event will be bigger with all members of the disciplined forces present.<\/p>\n

Kipkorir said the sport has grown in stature, especially in the Kenya Defence Forces.<\/p>\n

\u201c I am delighted with the performance of our team. It shows the immense hard work and talent we have at our disposal.”<\/p>\n
