Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has said Kenyans should reject proposals of the bipartisan team that do not impact positively on them.<\/p>\n

The National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) released the final report on Saturday with several recommendations.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Sunday, Karua said it is wrong to pass proposals that do not impact Kenyans.<\/p>\n

“Any purported agreement that does not immediately impact on the cost of living, electoral justice and respect for multiparty democracy is a fraud on the people and must be rejected,” she said.<\/p>\n

The committee admitted to failing to agree on the matter of cost of living while unveiling the final report of its deliberations.<\/p>\n

In the report, both camps made proposals on key issues that were part and parcel of the talks in which they disclosed failure to hit a deal on Azimio’s major concerns on taxes, the finance act, and the Housing Levy.<\/p>\n

“The committee was unable to reach a consensus on a number of other proposals on the matter of cost of living, including the reduction of VAT on fuel from 16 per cent to 8 per cent and scrapping of the housing levy, the twin issues in the Finance Act, 2023,” the report stated.<\/p>\n

The report was signed by NADCO co-chairs Kalonzo Musyoka of the Azimio Coalition and Kimani Ichung’wah of the Kenya Kwanza Coalition.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Azimio leader Raila Odinga had warned that he would not sign the report if the issues of the cost of living will not be addressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Azimio Coalition will not enter into any agreement without first addressing the cost of living. The cost of living must be reduced and we must also address the audit of last year\u2019s election,\u201d Raila said at an event in Mombasa on November 6.<\/p>\n

The committee, however, tabled four key proposals to address the cost of living.<\/p>\n

“NADCO recommends that all arms of government shall reduce their travel budgets by 50 per cent and that the Salaries and Remuneration Commission review Daily Subsistence Allowances for State and Public Officers to reduce by 30 per cent,” the first proposal read.<\/p>\n
