Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Cabinet Secretaries have been given a December 31, 2023, deadline to have all government services on e-Citizen.<\/p>\n

In a letter seen by the Star, the CSs have also been asked to take the lead in creating awareness within their dockets about e-Citizen and the importance of compliance.<\/p>\n

“This includes informing stakeholders about the over 16,000 services currently available on the platform,” the letter from the Secretary to Cabinet, Mercy Wanjau reads.<\/p>\n

Wanjau is also the chairperson of the e-Citizen Implementation Committee (e-CIC).<\/p>\n

“Ensuring that compliance with the directive remains a standing agenda item in all relevant meetings held within your portfolio,” she said.<\/p>\n

Wanjau said this will ensure consistent progress and accountability towards achieving the onboarding deadline.<\/p>\n

The CSs are also required to ensure that Paybill Number 222222 is the designated government payment platform for all government services.<\/p>\n

They are also required to ensure all other Paybill numbers that exist are terminated.<\/p>\n

“The e-CIC is committed to the targeted closure of the directive to onboard all government services onto the e-Citizen platform by the end of 2023, Wanjau said”<\/p>\n

As of August, government ministries, departments and agencies had so far discontinued the use of 1,448 Playbills in favour of the government’s 222222.<\/p>\n

Immigration PS Julius Bitok said the move is in line with a presidential directive issued on June 30 for the adoption of a single payment platform within 90 days.<\/p>\n

President William Ruto had in previous circulars set August 10, 2023 as the deadline.<\/p>\n

While issuing the directive for the transition on June 30, Ruto said there were over 1,000 Paybills “some of which we don’t have sight of”.<\/p>\n

He said for accountability purposes, “They must now be closed”.<\/p>\n
