Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>National Industrial Training Authority graduates say they are ready for the global job market.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Star, they expressed confidence in technical skills acquired during their training.<\/p>\n

At least 2,400 graduated after completing various courses at NITA\u2019s five centres across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m already employed after NITA impacted technical skills on me. I\u2019m going to better my work having upgraded my skills,\u201d Anne Katheni said.<\/p>\n

Katheni graduated with a certificate in dressmaking. She was among the 2,400 graduands who were conferred various certificates during the authority\u2019s inaugural graduation at its headquarters in Nairobi on Friday.<\/p>\n

They undertook their various training at NITA Nairobi, NITA Textile Training Institute, NITA Kisumu, NITA Athi River and NITA Mombasa.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can now join the global job market. I can work globally or do marketing globally. I\u2019m glad I came to NITA and upgraded my skills,\u201d Katheni said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe designs that I can now make are of standards needed globally. I\u2019m happy that I have graduated and thank NITA for giving us an opportunity to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joseph Oloo undertook a building and construction course. He said he will not only look for opportunities locally, but globally too.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m open for any job opportunity in the construction industry not only here in Kenya but worldwide,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

NITA board chairman Aden Noor Ali said the government is committed to helping them secure jobs locally, regionally and internationally.<\/p>\n

He said NITA takes some of its trainees to the National Employment Authority for job placements once they are done with their studies.<\/p>\n

Ali said those who were graduating had undergone vigorous hands-on training in various fields and courses.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe send some out of the country to be employed by international community. We have opened a database for them after we train them,\u201d Ali said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur work is skilling. We give our learners fine motor work skills that after six months or one year, they are independent to go and work for themselves or join the job market,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said NITA students are introduced to practicals immediately they join classes at the institution.<\/p>\n

NITA acting director general Teresiah Wasike said the authority initially graduated their students in respective centres.<\/p>\n

She said they hope that apart from serving the country by working in Kenya, NITA will be able to export some of them to other countries.<\/p>\n
