Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi will this afternoon host Diaspora Kenyans in London for the 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Friday, the Prime CS’s office said the event will start at 1.30 pm London time (4.30 pm local time).<\/p>\n

“During this event, the Prime CS will take the opportunity to address Kenyans in the Diaspora and emphasise the significant role they play in the development of our country,” the statement read.<\/p>\n

Mudavadi, who doubles up as the Diaspora and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary is in the UK on a working tour.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, he was invited to speak at the prestigious Chatham House in London where he said he highlighted Kenya’s foreign policy and the need to pursue a Strategic Approach to Peace, Economic Connectivity, and Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n

“I was deeply impressed by the Diaspora’s unwavering interest in the happenings back in Kenya, particularly in foreign relations,” he said in a statement.<\/p>\n

On Friday, the Prime CS revealed that he met Sir Clive Alderton, Private Secretary to King Charles and Queen Camilla at Buckingham Palace in London.<\/p>\n

He said during the courtesy call, they reflected on the King’s highly successful State Visit to Kenya, the role of the Commonwealth as a voice on global issues and planning for the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa next year.<\/p>\n

“Sir Clive thanked President William Ruto for being an excellent host as well as his strong leadership on global issues including climate change,” he said.<\/p>\n

King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived in Kenya on October 31 for a four-day state visit, the King’s first-ever visit to Africa and a Commonwealth nation since ascending the throne in September last year following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.<\/p>\n

The visit was billed as an opportunity for London to solidify ties with Nairobi but the legacy of decades of British colonial rule hung like a dark cloud on the royal couple’s heads.<\/p>\n

Kenya will mark its 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations on Tuesday, December 12 to commemorate six decades of internal self-rule attained in in 1963 from Great Britain.<\/p>\n

The holiday also formally marks the date Kenya was admitted into the Commonwealth as a republic in 1964.<\/p>\n
