Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Zanzibar’s President Hussein Mwinyi has explained why Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu failed to show up for Kenya’s 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations.<\/p>\n

Though Suluhu was one of the Presidential invites for the fete, Mwinyi said she could not attend as she was dealing with the effects of the floods from the heavy rains.<\/p>\n

Mwinyi said the Northern part of Tanzania has borne the brunt of the heavy rains which have caused flooding and tens of deaths.<\/p>\n

“President Samia Suluhu wished she could attend this Jamhuri Day celebration. But due to the effects of the floods being experienced in our country, particularly in the Northern parts, she sent me to represent her,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mwinyi was accompanied by his spouse First Lady Mariam Mwinyi.<\/p>\n

President of Ethiopia Sahle-Work Zewde was also present.<\/p>\n

Deputy President of Burundi Prosper Bazombanza, Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda and Minister for East African Community Affairs Rebecca Kadaga also attended the event.<\/p>\n

Several Ambassadors also graced the celebrations.<\/p>\n

King Charles III sent a message to Ruto as the country celebrates the 60th Jamhuri Day.<\/p>\n

The King congratulated Ruto and Kenyans saying he looks forward to a strong bilateral partnership.<\/p>\n

“Dear Mr President, I would like to send my heartfelt congratulations to Your Excellency, and the people of the Republic of Kenya on Jamhuri Day, which is particularly significant this year as you mark sixty years since Independence,” he said in a statement.<\/p>\n

“I look forward to the continuing warm friendship and the strong and close partnership between our two countries, including as members of the Commonwealth, in this special year of the tenth anniversary of the Commonwealth Charter.”<\/p>\n
