Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has said there are plans to impose curfew in three counties to tame rising banditry activities.<\/p>\n

The CS on Friday said they will conduct a security operation in the Upper Eastern similar to what is going on in the North Rift region to tame banditry.<\/p>\n

He said they would put a curfew on areas that are banditry-prone.<\/p>\n

“The operation Maliza Uhalifu we have in Turkana West Pokot and Baringo will be in done Isiolo, Samburu and Marsabit in the effort to tame banditry. We will put a curfew in the area to sort out the banditry problem,” Kindiki said.<\/p>\n

Kindiki who spoke in Ndumuru, Igembe North constituency, Meru county, hinted that the curfew might be in place next week.<\/p>\n

He said they will gazette the areas where they will impose curfew and other security operations.<\/p>\n

Kindiki said the NPR who have passed out must stay in the camp to protect residents and livestock.<\/p>\n

“From today NPR officers will be used to do operations they will stay in camp where they will be provided with resources and be under command from Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome. They will also be synchronized in the chain of command,” Kindiki said.<\/p>\n

He said the police will deploy armoured personnel carriers in Meru and Isiolo Border.<\/p>\n

Kindiki said there is a banditry menace in about 30 counties but they are doing all they can to resolve the issue.<\/p>\n

Kindiki warned politicians against the incitement of people over boundaries.<\/p>\n

“They should not incite people to fight over borders. We are not going to entertain that,” Kindiki said.<\/p>\n

Kindiki said all livestock stolen from Meru County will be returned.<\/p>\n

“We cannot allow a few people to plot, plan and execute on how they can make other people poor. We will not allow that,” Kindiki said.<\/p>\n
