Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto has warned reluctant government agencies against refusing to comply with the directive for all payments to be made via pay bill 222222.<\/p>\n

The Head of State said on Sunday some heads of state agencies are now asking that payments be made by cheque to avoid accountability over government monies they collect.<\/p>\n

He, however, put such officers on notice saying it won’t be business as usual come next year.<\/p>\n

“There are those directors who have not implemented the 222222 government pay bill…I’m warning them today. They are now asking for cheques to bypass accountability.<\/p>\n

“And I’m giving them last warning…every government service must be paid through government pay bill 222222,” Ruto said.<\/p>\n

Last December, the government announced that all payments for government services shall be made through e-citizen portal and stipulated 222222 as the the official government pay bill number.<\/p>\n

President Ruto said Kenyans should be able to pay for government services from the comfort of their homes without necessarily going to places physically.<\/p>\n

Government payments going digital is a step aimed at increasing revenue collection, minimising the cost of collection and enhancing service delivery.<\/p>\n

The President said digitisation is already making huge strides in sealing corruption loopholes in matters tax collection.<\/p>\n

In June, Ruto directed that more than 1,000 pay bill numbers used for the collection of payments for government services be shut within 90 days.<\/p>\n

He also directed all ministries, state departments and agencies to give a status update on the onboarding of all government services to e-Citizen ahead of the December 31, deadline.<\/p>\n
