Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>AFC Leopards’ patron, Alex Muteshi, has shed light on the challenges plaguing the club and the efforts being made to turn things around.<\/p>\n

Muteshi identified a pivotal moment in the club’s recent history, stating: “It all started when a former coach took us to Fifa to demand compensation after he was fired. Fifa slapped the club with a ban that will cost Sh20m.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis took a huge toll on us. We are still yet to clear the whole amount. A third and final installment must be cleared by March next year.”<\/p>\n

“I know our fans \u2014 who have been gracing our matches in numbers \u2014 have been questioning the performances of the team. The good thing is, there is no go-slow. I appeal to them to have some patience as the team gets back on track. We are trying our best to seal the loopholes,” Muteshi added.<\/p>\n

The club is currently negotiating with some players, identified by coach Tom Traucha and his technical bench and who are expected to join in the mid-season transfer window.<\/p>\n

Muteshi said: “We are certain of roping in four quality players, both in attack and defence. We could be down but we will surely rise again. We have a very young team whom we want to nurture to compete with the best.”<\/p>\n

He said the Lidode Super Cup, set for this week, will also inform of any other loophole that needs to be sealed during the transfer window.<\/p>\n

The tournament will feature Leopards, Kakamega Homeboyz, Nzoia Sugar and Mulembe FC and will be played at Bukhungu Stadium on December 23-24.<\/p>\n

Winners of the tournament will pocket Sh1m, while the rest of the teams will take home Sh500,000, Sh250,000 and Sh200,000 as per the standings on the final day.<\/p>\n
