Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Jubilee party allied to former President Uhuru Kenyatta has downplayed a meeting held by President William Ruto’s led faction.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the Uhuru’s faction alleged that the meeting was aimed at misleading elected leaders and members.<\/p>\n

“The group, led by nominated MP Sabina Chege – who has never been an official of the Party, and EALA MP Kanini Kega- are currently meeting at Safari Park Hotel. This meeting is convened against our Party constitution and is in contempt of multiple court orders,” the statement read.<\/p>\n

According to the party, Jubilee is the bona-fide leadership and their members.<\/p>\n

“We understand this meeting is a knee-jerk reaction to the ongoing Jubilee Mashinani activities. We urge the conveners to stop panicking and to desist from summoning our elected leaders to random illegal meetings,” the statement read.<\/p>\n

“There is only one Jubilee Party under the leadership of Uhuru Kenyatta.”<\/p>\n

The Ruto’s allied Jubille Party held a meeting on Wednesday at Safari Park.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, Chege affirmed her commitment to fighting for the party despite intimidation and court cases.<\/p>\n

“I earned this position, it was not a favour given to me. The only way I qualified is because of the elected members of the National Assembly. If it was not for them I would not have gotten this,” she said.<\/p>\n

The Jubilee MP has been facing opposition in parliament that saw her kicked out as Azimio deputy minority whip.<\/p>\n

She was however handed a new role by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula who named her whip of the Jubilee Parliamentary Party.<\/p>\n

In October the former ruling party Jubilee filed a petition at the Milimani High Court in Nairobi against Chege and Kega.<\/p>\n

The two were accused of continuing to pose as officials before the leadership wrangle was settled.<\/p>\n

Still, on October 26, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang\u2019ula declared Jubilee a parliamentary party and handed Chege the powerful Whip position for the new entity.<\/p>\n

Initially, Parliament only recognised Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja as the Majority and Minority in the 13th Parliament.<\/p>\n

The Speaker also elevated the status of the Jubilee splinter group in the August house.<\/p>\n
