Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kisii Industrial FC clinched the Kitutu Chache South National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) men\u2019s soccer tournament after a hard-fought 5-4 penalty shootout win over Matieko.<\/p>\n

In a game that was played at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho, the two teams played to a barren draw at full time and the game went straight into penalties to determine the winner.<\/p>\n

Kisii Industrial\u2019s goalkeeper Joseph Wekesa was the hero of the game after saving Dickson Nyakundi\u2019s penalty. Wekesa a former student at St Francis Kimuron in Elgeyo Marakwet was named goalkeeper of the tournament.<\/p>\n

During the dramatic shootout, Elijah Manwa, Washington Amayuku, Clinton Omondi, Abdul Aziz, and Nick Odhiambo scored for Kisii Industrial while Matieko\u2019s penalty kicks were converted by Steven Ouru, Fred Onsando, Rolex Odhiambo, and Phillip Nyamweya.<\/p>\n

Kitutu Central Queens saw off Riotero Queens 1-0 to lift the women\u2019s title. Sylvia Ondiba scored the only goal of the game for Kitutu Central.<\/p>\n

The sports bonanza was attended by the tournament\u2019s patron who is the area MP Anthony Kibagendi, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, Kisii Woman Representative Dorice Donya Aburi, Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo and Bomachoge Borabu\u2019s Obadiah Barongo among other guests.<\/p>\n

Other events featured include sack races, athletics, spoon egg races, and eating competitions.<\/p>\n

A total of 53 men\u2019s teams and 17 women’s participated in the month-long tournament. Scouts from various Kenya Premier League and National Super League teams attended the event.<\/p>\n

Governor Simba Arati announced that the county has allocated Sh10 million for the inaugural Governors Cup which will be held next year. \u201cThe tournament will feature teams from across the nine sub-counties and winners will get generous awards,\u201d said Arati.<\/p>\n

The winning team in the men\u2019s category received Sh150,000, with second place getting Sh100,000. The third-place finishers got Sh75,000.<\/p>\n

All the teams that reached the last 16 in the men\u2019s category received uniforms while in the women\u2019s category, all the quarter-finalists received uniforms.<\/p>\n

In the women\u2019s category, the winners received Sh100,000 while first runners-up went home with 75, 000 and third third-placed team Sh50,000.<\/p>\n

Also awarded were the best goalkeepers, top scorers, and best goalkeepers. The best player in the men\u2019s category Steven Ouko of Matieko FC landed a full scholarship from the MP.<\/p>\n

The tournament\u2019s top scorer Phillip Mayaka of Matieko was awarded with soccer boots. Kibagendi pledged to sponsor the tournament annually.<\/p>\n

Doris Simba of Kitutu Central was named the player of the tournament while Cynthia Makori won the golden glove. Sara Siriba was the top scorer with 10 goals.<\/p>\n
