Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino has urged the financially challenged parents with bright students joining Form 1 to take them to local secondary schools.<\/p>\n

Owino said it is easy to support students in such schools instead of taking them to those which charge high fee that are burdensome.<\/p>\n

Concerns have been raised over difficulties many parents who are financially unstable undergo in paying school fees when they take their children to schools with high fee which they cannot afford.<\/p>\n

Owino argued that taking a bright student to a school in which the parent cannot pay school is fees destroys the academic talent of the child due to inconsistency in being in class.<\/p>\n

They are usually sent home to go and look for school fees.<\/p>\n

\u201cA student who has been admitted in a secondary school with unaffordable fees suffers wastage of time when they are sent home persistently for school fees. This interferes with their academic performance,\u201d Owino said.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Tuesday during a fundraiser for supporting bodaboda riders in Kanyamwa Kosewe and Kanyamwa Kologi wards at Andiwo Primary School in the constituency, the MP said such bright students can get ample time to learn when they join local schools where fees are affordable.<\/p>\n

He asked parents to refrain from the mentality that students can only perform better in \u2018big schools.\u2019<\/p>\n

Owino told parents and students not to underrate secondary schools in their localities.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s embrace our own by taking students we consider bright into our local schools. We should give students ample time to study in schools which are affordable,\u201d Owino said.<\/p>\n

He said the remedy is to take the students to local schools with affordable fees so that they get time to concentrate on their studies.<\/p>\n

The MP said his office will provide scholarships to bright and needy students who join secondary schools in Ndhiwa constituency.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany people of Ndhiwa have difficulties in paying school fees for their children and as a leader, I have to put strategies in place to enable our children go to school. Let\u2019s understand that the school near their home can also propel them to universities like any other school elsewhere,\u201d Owino said.<\/p>\n

He said joining local schools will enhance the growth of such schools.<\/p>\n

The MP urged bodaboda riders to form Savings and Credit Co-operative societies to enable them get funds for investment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe high number of students in a school leads to better funding from both the Ministry of Education and the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
