Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>A row has hit the Mosop National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) in Nandi county after the management made a last-minute cancellation of the tender for hosting a youth sports tournament.<\/p>\n

Managers of the kitty are embroiled in a row with directors of Utumishi Ventures company that had been contracted to run the sports event but had their tender cancelled at the last minute due to what the company terms as unclear reasons.<\/p>\n

Officials have denied allegations that they demanded a Sh200,000 bribe from the firm to be allowed to go on with the tender which was worth about Sh1 million that included cash awards to teams that took part in the sports events.<\/p>\n

The firm directors argue that they were awarded the contract to stage the tournament but the NG-CDF cancelled the same tender via an SMS a few hours before the event.<\/p>\n

One of the company directors alleged that he was surprised at the last-minute cancellation of the tender even after he had invested his finances in preparations for the tournament which took place at<\/p>\n

\u201cI was informed via text message from one of the officials that the tender awarded to us had been cancelled and no reason was given for the cancellations,” he said.<\/p>\n

He claimed that the whole issue stemmed back to a Sh200,000 kickback some individuals wanted out of the contracted sum.<\/p>\n

\u201cI refused to pay out the bribe and that is how my tender was cancelled\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

He said he had all the documentation given to him for the work he was to do and that unless he is refunded all his costs and damages he would file a court case against the Mosop National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) and its officials.<\/p>\n

But officials of the events including Paul Koech who is chairman of the sports committee and Benjamin Sugut funds manager denied claims that they had cancelled the tender because of the bribery claims.<\/p>\n

Koech explained that they had less money in the accounts of the kitty at the time of the sports events and had discussed with the directors of the firm to scale down the requirements but they declined.<\/p>\n

The sports events were held at Kaiboi Technical Institute where Koech said they had to put in place emergency measures after the firm declined to host the event at a lower cost.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have no issue with the firm because we have worked with them before and we will iron out the differences we have,” Koech said.<\/p>\n

However, the firm still insisted that the CDF kitty officials had breached his contract and must be held responsible.<\/p>\n
