Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The East African Community (EAC) Secretary-General, Dr. Peter Muthuki, has urged the bloc\u2019s partner states to pursue peaceful settlements for any disputes and exercise restraint.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued on Friday, the EAC boss mentioned that the Secretariat is working closely with the Office of the Chairperson of the Summit of the EAC Heads of State to facilitate the necessary steps for the peaceful resolution of any emerging disputes among Partner States.<\/p>\n

The East African Community was founded with the primary goal of fostering cooperation for mutual benefit and promoting the welfare of the people of East Africa, including jointly undertaking activities to advance the Community\u2019s objectives.<\/p>\n

\u201cAccordingly, all East African Community Partner States are urged to strive for harmonious cooperation in their endeavors to ensure that the people of East Africa remain at the center of our integration,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

He reminded the community\u2019s members that the EAC\u2019s operational principles dictate that our integration is people-centered, and all our undertakings should strictly observe this spirit.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the event of any dispute arising between two or more Partner States, it is expected that we use the existing EAC Dispute Resolution Mechanism that fully respects the integrity and sovereignty of our Partner States,\u201d he insisted.<\/p>\n
