Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has condemned President William Ruto for openly declaring his refusal to adhere to court orders.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Kalonzo emphasized that the judiciary deserves respect from all Kenyans, regardless of their societal status.<\/p>\n

He asserted that the independence of the judiciary is non-negotiable.<\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday( Friday), as a senior council, I joined other young and middle-level practitioners together with LSK President. There are youth who have volunteered to protect the dignity and freedom of our courts,\u201d Kalonzo said.<\/p>\n

The Wiper leader was addressing mourners during a burial ceremony at Kyangala in Kalama, Machakos County.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can\u2019t play with that arm of government, the judiciary; lawyers, magistrates, judges and all court officials,\u201d Kalonzo said.<\/p>\n

The ex-vice president highlighted that the Kenyan Constitution of 2010 has bestowed fundamental freedoms and rights upon our nation.<\/p>\n

Additionally, he voiced criticism against the police for their disruption of recent birthday celebrations for ODM chief Raila Odinga in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey teargassed Baba\u2019s cake. The Kenya Kwanza government will get to historical books as the most obnoxious administration in this country,\u201d Kalonzo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t do these things if you believe in the rule of law. So, the independence of the judiciary isn\u2019t negotiable. We need to put a stop to this thing,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Kalonzo stated that if the executive branch wishes to persist in making noise, they should do so.<\/p>\n

However, he emphasized the importance of allowing the judicial arm of the government to function independently and without interference.<\/p>\n

Addressing the issue of taxes, he remarked, “The issue at hand is that these taxes are unconstitutional. If given the authority today, I would nullify the executive order compelling all Kenyans with pay slips to pay the housing tax because, as it stands, it is unconstitutional, and we cannot evade this reality.”<\/p>\n
