Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has slammed reports linking him to the 2027 succession politics.<\/p>\n

The CS referred to any Political talk about 2027 or any other future as tactless.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny political talks on future elections a year after a General Election is tactless, anti-people and primitive.”<\/p>\n

Kindiki said the discourse is a blot on the maturity of Kenya\u2019s democracy.<\/p>\n

The statement comes after a section of Mt Kenya leaders suggested that Kindiki is the ideal one to replace Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the 2027 elections.<\/p>\n

The leaders suggested that President William Ruto should replace Gachagua with the Interior boss as his running mate in 2027 as he seeks re-election.<\/p>\n

Urging a stop to the succession politics, the Interior boss urged political leaders not to drag his name into the talks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ongoing debate ought to stop, but if it must proceed, I respectfully request that my name should not be dragged in it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Kindiki explained that President William Ruto had assigned him the role of championing his administration\u2019s programmes for the transformation of our Country into a sustainably safe homeland for this and future generations.<\/p>\n

As a result, the role he plays as the Interior boss is sensitive and requires full focus.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe sensitive role demands relentless focus and total abstinence from all manner of distracting misadventure,\u201d Kindiki said.<\/p>\n

This comes barely a day after Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni wa Muchomba asked Mt Kenya leaders to focus their energy on addressing the needs of ordinary citizens and not succession politics.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Monday, the legislator said it is time for leaders to focus on development.<\/p>\n

She said that with the skyrocketing cost of living, leaders ought to unite in making life bearable.<\/p>\n

“This is not the time to start thinking or planning on who will be deputy president from Mt Kenya. It’s time to get one man, one shilling vote for our people who desperately need it. Life has become unbearable,” she said.<\/p>\n

Gachagua on Saturday asked Mt Kenya leaders to unite, shun divisive politics and promote greater participation of the youth in productive socio-economic activities.<\/p>\n

The Deputy President said there was a political scheme to divide the Mt Kenya region voting bloc.<\/p>\n
