Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has weighed in on the ongoing tiff over the leadership of the Mt Kenya region.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Wednesday, Wamuchomba said that there is only one way one can become the leader of the region.<\/p>\n

She said this can only be through one’s dedication to serving the people of Mt Kenya to ensure their welfare is safeguarded.<\/p>\n

“You can only become a kingpin or a queenpin through your dedication to serve and ability to take a bullet for the sake of the welfare of your countrymen,” Wamuchomba said on X.<\/p>\n

Her remarks come amidst an ongoing succession battle on who should take over the leadership of Mt Kenya Region in 2027.<\/p>\n

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has over the past few weeks faced disgruntled voices demanding he be dropped as President William Ruto’s deputy. The growing rebellion comes from within the UDA party.<\/p>\n

UDA leaders and close allies of the President from Central Kenya and Mount Kenya East have come out openly to endorse their own to replace Gachagua as Ruto’s deputy in 2027.<\/p>\n

The Central Kenya MPs, mainly from Murang’a, are rallying behind Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro while their Mt Kenya East counterparts are vouching for Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.<\/p>\n

Murang\u2019a Senator Joe Nyutu and Gatanga MP Edward Muriu have openly backed Nyoro for the DP position.<\/p>\n

“We will request Ruto to choose a young person from Murang\u2019a who is Ndindi Nyoro. Gachagua has lost his ground, treating people disrespectfully, including elected leaders,” Nyutu stated.<\/p>\n

“The women of Murang\u2019a also give birth to leaders and Ndindi Nyoro is qualified enough to deputise Ruto and become a leader,” added Muriu.<\/p>\n

While Nyoro has not spoken on the matter, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday told off those dragging his name into succession politics.<\/p>\n

He said that it is premature to start talking of succession.<\/p>\n

Public Service Cabinet Moses Kuria is also believed to be positioning himself as Mount Kenya’s next political kingpin.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Kuria dared all who want to lead the region to face him head-on and in a nationwide contest.<\/p>\n

“You can not be declared an Olympic Swimming Champion for swimming in a bathtub. Oh, ye angling for regional supremacy, come and face me in the open Indian Ocean that is the great Republic of Kenya,” the CS said.<\/p>\n

Gachagua on his part insists that this is not the time to politic but the time to work for the great people of Mt Kenya and the country at large.<\/p>\n

President Ruto also said the ongoing succession politics was an insult to Kenyans.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Gilgil, the President said leaders should focus on developing the country in their various roles.<\/p>\n

He said leaders should not waste time by engaging in politics instead of focusing on what they were elected to do.<\/p>\n

“I want to ask all leaders, it will be an insult to Kenyans. Let us concentrate on delivering on the assignment given to us by Kenyans on matters of transformation of Kenya, how to create jobs, how to expand food production and ensure that Kenyans have access to universal health,” Ruto said.<\/p>\n
