Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has asked President Ruto to respect the Court of Appeal’s decision to suspend the implementation of the housing tax levy.<\/p>\n

Speaking at Kangemi Vocational Training College while presiding over bursary application in Mountain View ward on Tuesday the MP said it was unfortunate for the President to push the implementation of an \u201cunconstitutional\u201d tax.<\/p>\n

\u201cRuto promised to bring down the cost of living in his political campaigns, but instead is implementing policies that will make the poor poorer,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The government suffered a major setback after the Court of Appeal declined to suspend orders barring the state from deducting housing levies from Kenyans.<\/p>\n

The housing levy therefore remains suspended as declared by the High Court.<\/p>\n

The Attorney General and the National Treasury moved to the appellate court after the High Court found the deductions to be unconstitutional.<\/p>\n

Wanyonyi also cautioned employers to respect workers\u2019 rights and suspend the deduction of the housing levy as ordered by the court.<\/p>\n

He used the occasion to announce an increase in secondary school bursaries to benefit 1000 households from 600 in each ward.<\/p>\n

He also increased the tertiary and college bursary benefactors to 300 from 120 in every ward.<\/p>\n

On another note, Wanyonyi called for more of his constituents to register and verify as ODM members.<\/p>\n

According to him, ODM remains the party to beat in Nairobi and should bag all seats in Nairobi including the gubernatorial seat in 2027.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe won majority seats in Nairobi and still lost the gubernatorial seat. We had put someone who did not understand Nairobi politics,\u201d Wanyonyi said.<\/p>\n

He urged Westland’s constituents to allow him to serve them in a bigger position in the city in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I go to serve you at City Hall I will bring you more goodies,\u201d Wanyonyi said.<\/p>\n

Mountain View Member of County Assembly Maurice Ochieng accompanied the MP.<\/p>\n
