{"id":112080,"date":"2024-01-31T20:23:15","date_gmt":"2024-01-31T20:23:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/wetangula-moves-to-supreme-court-over-housing-levy-ruling"},"modified":"2024-01-31T21:40:19","modified_gmt":"2024-01-31T21:40:19","slug":"wetangula-moves-to-supreme-court-over-housing-levy-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/wetangula-moves-to-supreme-court-over-housing-levy-ruling","title":{"rendered":"Wetang&#8217;ula moves to Supreme Court over Housing levy ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang\u2019ula has moved to the Supreme Court over the Housing Levy.<\/p>\n<p>The Speaker filed a notice of appeal.<\/p>\n<p>In the notice, the National Assembly and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang&#8217;ula stated that they will be appealing against the whole ruling rendered by Justices Lydia Achode, John Mativo and Mwaniki Gachoka on January 26.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The national assembly and the speaker of national assembly being dissatisfied with the decision of the court of appeal intend to appeal to the Supreme Court against the whole ruling,&#8221; reads the notice<\/p>\n<p>On January 26, the government suffered a major setback after the Court of Appeal declined to suspend orders barring the state from deducting housing levy from Kenyans.<\/p>\n<p>The housing levy therefore remained suspended as declared by the High Court.<\/p>\n<p>The appellate Judges said if they affirm the constitutional invalidity of the challenged laws, then some far-reaching decisions that would have been undertaken may not be reversed.<\/p>\n<p>They said it is in the public interest that the appeals first be heard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\">Kenya<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya.
